Seeds for African Diaspora Fashion Fest were planted when Dr. Lawton and her sister
modeled at a church fashion show while in elementary school. Those seeds began to
flourish when LaJoyce modeled her creations during Lincoln University (MO) Home
Economics Department fashion shows.
She served as Teacher Counselor for a Foods, Fashions and Furnishings program
throughout western Europe, sponsored by Scholastic International. While working at
Yokota AB Japan, she developed/facilitated an African Diaspora Fashion Fest event for
Black History Month celebrations.
Most recently, during Small Boutique Fashion Week Houston, Dr. Lawton debuted
“Caminos”, an exquisite collection created especially for African Diaspora Fashion Fest
by Barbara’s Cuba. African Diaspora Fashion Fest hosted renowned Afro Swiss
designer, Peggy Memvouta, as she shared pieces from her latest collection,
“Afripatchwork”.

Introducing the African Diaspora Fashion Fest, a fundraising venture launched by The Multitude Experience with the twofold purpose of demonstrating how your passion can monetize your ministry and supporting TME participants with seed money for their ministry ventures. The African Diaspora Fashion Fest helps support TME participants who voiced a common lack of resources to get their ministries off the ground both in providing monetary support and providing an example of how your passion can monetize your ministry.
Seeds for ADFF as it exists today were planted when Dr. Lawton and her sister modeled for a church fashion show while they were in elementary school. Later, Dr. Lawton modeled her creations at Lincoln University fashion shows and developed African Diaspora fashion festivals during Black History Month in Yokota, Japan. Most recently ADFF has presented fashions from Afro-Cuban and Afro-Swiss designers at fashion events in the Houston area.
Interested in participating? We are always looking for models, photographers, designers, event venues, organizers, etc. to join us!
